Imam Abu Hanifah ‘Imam-e-`Adham’
Better known as `Imam-e-`Adham’ (The Greatest Imam), or by his kunyah `Abu Hanifah’, Nu’man ibn Thabit was born in the city of Kufa (modern day Iraq) in the year 80 A.H (689 A.D). Born into a family of tradesmen, the Imam’s family were of Persian origin as well as descending from the noble Prophet’s (saw) Companion Salman al-Farsi (ra). Imam Abu Hanifah’s father, Thabit, had met in Kufa Imam `Ali Ibn Abi Talib (ra) who made dua for him and his progeny, and some say that Abu Hanifah was a result of this dua.
A hadith given by al-Bukhari and Muslim states that Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated Allah’s Messenger (saw) as saying:”If the Religion were at the Pleiades, even then a person from Persia would have taken hold of it, or one amongst the Persian descent would surely have found it.” Abu Hurairah (ra) also narrates:”We were sitting in the company …

Imam Bukhari
Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ismail ibn Ibrahim al-Bukhari al-Jufi was born in 194 A.H. in the city of Bukhara. His father Ismail was a well-respected scholar and was one of the students of Hammad ibn Zaid, and Imam Malik. Unfortunately, he died when his son Muhammad was quite young. He did, though, leave his son a good fortune such that he was able to spend most of his time in learning and did not have to worry about financial matters.
He began his studies at a very young age, studying the Qur’an and other essential topics, as was the practice of his day. But from his youth, he was especially attracted to the study of hadith. By the age of ten, he was reading the available works; by the age of sixteen, he had memorized the works of Waki and Abdullah ibn al- Mubarak and he was familiar with the opinions …

The following biography is taken from Imam Hafidh Abu Hafs ‘Umar bin ‘Ali al-Bazzar’s book on Shaykh ibn Taymiyah.

have not laid my two eyes on anyone like him, nor
has he seen anyone as knowledgeable as himself.”
Al-Hafidh Adh-Dhahabi
He was born in Harra on the 10th of Rabi’ al-Awwal 661 H,7 and remained in it until he was seven years old. Then, his father (may Allah have Mercy on him) took him to Damascus (may Allah protect it), and he was given the best upbringing possible there, and Allah implanted in him the best of traits. The signs of excellence, dedication, and sharpness were clear in him from an early age.
A trustworthy friend who knew him told me that when the Shaykh (may Allah be Pleased with him) was still …
